Our Journey

The Kion Story

The Meaning of KION

KION takes its name from the Peruvian word for ginger—a root that symbolizes warmth, boldness, and the power to bring flavors together. Just like ginger bridges ingredients in countless cuisines, Kion bridges two rich culinary traditions: Latin American and Japanese Nikkei.

Our logo tells a deeper story. The vibrant strings forming the "O" represent quipus—ancient Andean cords that were used for communication and storytelling by the Inca civilization. Each dish we create carries forward this tradition of telling stories through the language of food.

Located in the heart of Ballyhackamore, Belfast, we bring the passion of Latin America and the precision of Japan to Northern Ireland's vibrant food scene.
